This Saturday March 8th is International Women's Day!  This year's theme is "INSPIRING CHANGE".
    Something we strive for everyday.

I am very pleased to announce that Sonja Enfinger has been asked to represent  WEDC and ION, a national
Women's interorganizational network of which we belong to, in New York City to celebrate. She will be at the
NEW YORK STOCK EXCHANGE during the closing bell ceremony this Friday March 7th at 4pm - 6pm.
There will be women from all over the country & abroad attending this event.

Also, member Judith Shaver has been busy putting together an International Women’s Day Celebration in Birmingham
Alabama. Judith's company, SunGard will host a screening of the documentary Girl Rising in several of its office
locations including New York, Chicago, Birmingham, and Tunis. The film, which was released last year,
follows girls in nine developing countries and highlights how education changed their lives and those of
    the people around them.

What are you doing to celebrate?

At their Annual "HONOR OUR MENTORS" banquet Big Brothers Big Sisters
of North Alabama honored the Women's Economic Development Council for their Mentoring.
Big Brothers Big Sisters promotes one-on-one long term mentoring, similar to the WEDC Foundation.

WEDC was nominated by our member Kitty Davenport. a message from Kitty:

"It’s national mentoring month and I’d like to honor an entire group that, in one way or another,

has mentored me for 20 years.  The WEDC, the Women’s Economic Development Council,

is a group of women business professionals, who provides opportunities to women for leadership

and economic development through education, mentoring and networking.

Mentoring is a cherished tradition for WEDC from its very beginning. I don't know if you all know
what inspiration and good influence you are on me personally and today is the day to say so.
You project the qualities of leadership, vision, passion, generosity, graciousness, positivity, integrity,
strategic thinking, sophistication, determination, and dedication. Thank you for your good example.
North Alabama benefits from your accomplishments.
You are each  a leader in your own way and I happily follow the smart, sophisticated, endlessly energetic
example you set. Sadly there is not enough room for me to mention everyone - I mean it in the kindest way.
It's just that you ALL mean so much to me and today is the day to say so."

Thank you Kitty for the nomination and I think I speak for all of us that we benefit from knowing you and enjoying
    your mentorship.

    Dear Members,
Thank you for the wonderful turn out at January's meeting. We now begin our journey from Good to Great!

Turning good into great takes energy, but the building of momentum adds more energy back into the pool than it takes out.
Conversely, perpetuating mediocrity is an inherently depressing process and drains much more energy out of the pool than
it puts back in.  Get involved in something you care so much about that you want to make it the best it can be!  For like all
basic truths about what is best for human beings, when we catch a glimpse of that truth, we know that our own lives and all
that we touch will be better for making the effort to get there.
Great Life = Meaningful Life = Meaningful Work

What WEDC project  will you put your energy into this year??

Over the past decade, Women Honoring Women has grown to become one of Huntsville’s most anticipated community fundraising events. Now in its twelfth year, WHW is Continuing the Promise  of helping women achieve self-sufficiency and economic independence. The money raised goes toward educational scholarships and assistance for Madison County women. Beginning with a single scholar and a $1,000.00 award, the Foundation has served over 96 deserving women with more than $217,800 in scholarship awards in the past 14 years.
Please plan to attend this wonderful event on September 19th - you can register or purchase a sponsorship online, through our website now!
The Foundation will be announcing this year's honorees at a press conference immediately prior to our August 8th luncheon!!
