 THE FIVE PRINCIPLES OF CONNECTION

#5 CONNECTING IS AN ACQUIRED SKILL, NOT A TALENT.

"Your credibility comes from several sources, including who recommends you, what you know, what you have done, and how you have lived. Keep working on your abilities, insights, track record and authenticity."

Please join us as speaker, Meaghan Chitwood, Mom, Wife, Engineer, Networking Expert, shares with us her insights on this topic!

"What gives me the right to anoint myself as a networking expert? Let me share my story.

"As I mentioned, I’m an engineer. Ever interacted with an engineer? We like to state FACTS. We tend to spew facts from every pore in our skin! We are logical. Decisive. Neutral. By nature, engineers are not usually perceived as warm and personable. As an engineer in my career years ago, I was very, very good…but I lacked networking skills to help me reach my goals.

"Two women noticed me struggling with networking and decided to take me under their wings. Through their tutelage, I learned to excavate a warmer, caring, more empathetic side of me, and blend it with my logical, factual, systems-oriented side! I learned the flow of effective conversation – who I should have in my network, how to break the ice, how to keep the flow, how to listen effectively, and how to turn the conversation into actions. I was given the gift of learning how to communicate with all types of people!

"I was like a sponge! I absorbed and applied everything they taught me…and IT WORKED!

"I knew I had more to learn, so, I studied. I practiced. I tried. I fell on my face. I applied what I learned. I built relationships. I created solid long-lasting systems that I still use today."

Meaghan also serves on the Board for Habitat for Humanity of Madison County. Meaghan is married to fellow engineer, Shawn, and together they have two children, Elin (3) and Keegan (2).
