Breaking through Barriers Luncheon!
Please join the Huntsville Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) for the Breaking through Barriers luncheon.
Channel 48 News anchor and cancer survivor, Liz Hurley will speak on “How My Walk turned into a Run”.
Among her many achievements, Liz has been recognized twice as the “Best News Anchor” in the State of Alabama by the Associated Press, She has garnered two Emmy nominations and three Edward R, Murrow Awards for outstanding work in her field.
Perhaps her most prized achievement, however, is being a breast cancer survivor. After being diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer in 1998, she shared her story and knowledge in a very public way, documenting her experience on videotape. She went on to establish the Liz Hurley Breast Cancer Fund at Huntsville Hospital Foundation. Liz is a strong believer in using local news as a vehicle for positive change in a community, including informing the public, protecting consumers, helping the less fortunate, and increasing awareness about health issues, especially women’s health issues.
The Breaking through Barriers luncheon is the annual fundraiser to send women students to the National Conference for College Women Student Leaders(NCCWSL).
The main course will be Chicken Piccata but you may specify if you prefer a vegetarian or vegan meal.
Luncheon tickets are $35(each), or the amount of a ticket(s) may be donated to the local AAUW fund that assists students from several local schools.
